Titolo: Chemical evolution of the bulge of M31 and elliptical galaxies: constraints on the formation and evolution of large spheroidal systems
Decorrenza: 01.06.2025

Descrizione:

This project aims to study the chemical evolution of bulges and elliptical galaxies by means of detailed chemical models following the evolution of 46 chemical elements. In particular, the model results will be compared to new data on the bulge of M31 and ellipticals, obtained with the Large Binocular Telescope. It is the first time that chemical abundances of alpha-elements, carbon, nitrogen, sodium and iron are derived at the same time for the stars in the bulge of M31. From this comparison it will be possible to derive important constraints on the formation and evolution of large spheroidals, a timely topic in the light of the recent high redshift observations from JWST which predict an overabundance of massive systems.
