How to Get to the Observatory - Basevi Site

By Car

Take the A4 Motorway to the exit Trieste Lisert (toll payment). Continue to drive on the motorway and then either exit at Sistiana and take the Strada Costiera to Trieste (29 km) or drive on to the exit Trieste Prosecco and follow the directions to Trieste Center. The Astronomical Observatory of Trieste is close to San Giusto Cathedral in the town centre.

 

By Train

From the railway station either by taxi (10 min.) or by  bus line 1 (20 min.) from the end-of-line stop opposite the station main entrance. Get off in Piazza Sansovino stop and turn upwards to Via Bramante and  to the stairs to the Observatory.
From downtown Trieste (Piazza Oberdan), bus lines to the Observatory are line 15 and line 16. Both lines stop in via Tiepolo.

By Plane

Daily flights by Alitalia, Ryanair, Lufthansa, JAT, Air Dolomiti, Bellair connect major Italian and European cities to the Ronchi dei Legionari Airport (TRS). From the airport to the railway station of Trieste (45 min.) you can either take Bus line 51 (Airport Bus 51) or a taxi. The bus stops are outside the airport terminal building. Bus tickets can be purchased at the post office on the ground floor or from the automatic machine at the arrivals hall.

From Venezia airport, ATVO buses take passengers to Venezia Mestre Railway station (25 min.). From Mestre station you reach Trieste by train in about 1h 50 min.
