How to reach Basovizza Observing Station

By Car

Take the A4 Motorway  to Trieste-Lisert motorway exit. Continue to drive on the motorway to the exit Padriciano/Fiume. Turn left and enter road S.S. 202 (sign: Fiume/Basovizza), then turn right to take road SR14 (sign: Rijeka/Basovizza) and at the crossroad turn left  to Basovizza. Drive past the village of Basovizza and continue in the direction of Pesek.  After about two kms take a secondary road on the left (roadsign: Osservatorio Astronomico) next to a red house.

From  Trieste centre
Follow the roadsigns "Trieste University" and then "Basovizza". When you reach the town of Basovizza follow the roadsign "Pesek" (see above).

By Train

From the Central Railway Station take the bus 39 in the direction of VILLA CARSIA or the bus 51 in the direction AREA DI RICERCA. Get down at the stop of Basovizza Town, Via Gruden (Basovizza-pharmacy). Go stright in the direction of the Centre of Basovizza and take the first road on the right. Take on the left the "Strada per Basovizza" (SR14, E61).
After a few minutes' walk, when you reach a small road on the left, close to a red house, you can see a white roadsign of the Basovizza observing station. Take this small road and go stright on until the end of the road where you can see the gate at the main entrance of the Observing Station.

By Plane

Daily flights by Alitalia, Ryanair, Lufthansa, JAT, Air Dolomiti, Bellair connect major Italian and European cities to the Ronchi dei Legionari Airport (TRS). From the airport to the railway station of Trieste (45 min.) you can either take Bus line 51 (Airport Bus 51) or a taxi. The bus stops are outside the airport terminal building. Bus tickets can be purchased at the post office on the ground floor or from the automatic machine at the arrivals hall.

From Venezia airport, ATVO buses take passengers to Venezia Mestre Railway station (25 min.). From Mestre station you reach Trieste by train in about 1h 50 min.
